The Clean Energy Act in New Jersey includes a benchmarking requirement designed to promote energy efficiency and sustainability in large buildings.
Building owners must annually measure and report their energy usage.
Commercial buildings that span at least 25,000 square feet, including shopping centers, office buildings, and apartments. (Note: The NJ Board of Public Utilities defines “commercial” by your building’s property tax assessment business class – Class 4A Commercial and Class 4C Apartments are covered classes.)
2023 Annual benchmarking data for properties in New Jersey must be submitted by July 1st, 2024. There is a 90-day grace period for filing.
