Owner’s Representative Services for Multifamily Buildings

BLOG

Last week, NYSERDA announced an exciting program to help expand access to energy efficiency and decarbonization upgrades for multifamily buildings. With the new Owner’s Representative Services for Multifamily Buildings Program, NYSERDA is investing in previously underserved buildings.

It can be difficult for owners of smaller multifamily housing to decarbonize. Upgrades like heat pumps, heat pump hot water heaters, and building envelope improvements require significant investment, so it’s critical that owners choose the right solutions and implement them correctly. In multifamily housing, decarbonization is technically complex and requires skilled oversight, so owners typically rely on a qualified service provider like Bright Power to successfully plan and implement projects. Unfortunately, smaller buildings, condos and co-ops, affordable housing, and properties in disadvantaged communities often lack the resources to find and employ a provider to guide them.

The Owner’s Representative Services for Multifamily Buildings program will provide up to $35,000 to help with project planning, managing competitive bid processes, identifying funding sources, as well as enabling relationship management, and construction oversight – everything an owner needs to get their project from idea to fruition.

Bright Power is proud to be one of NYSERDA’s pre-qualified owner’s representatives.

To be eligible, a building must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Meet NYSERDA’s Multifamily Affordable Housing Criteria
  • Residential buildings in which at least 25% of the units are, or are expected to be, occupied by households earning not more than 80% of the Area or State Median Income, whichever is higher, or that meet an affordability proxy requirement
  • Be either a condominium or a co-op
  • Contain 50 or fewer dwelling units

If your building meets one of these criteria, and you want to pursue energy efficiency or decarbonization upgrades but need help to figure out exactly how to do it, we encourage you to apply on NYSERDA’s website. Apply Now
